Short answer

To set up an Amazon seller account you register in Seller Central with your business details, choose a selling plan, add a bank account for payouts and a chargeable credit card, enter your tax information, and pass Amazon's identity verification, which can include a video call. Have your government ID and a recent bank or card statement ready, and make sure every name and address you enter matches those documents exactly; mismatches cause most delays.

What do you need before you start?

A government-issued ID, a bank account that can receive payouts, a credit card Amazon can charge, a phone number, your business name and address, and your tax details. If you sell as a company, have its registration details ready too.

Use the same spelling of names and addresses everywhere. If your ID says one thing and your bank statement another, verification stalls.

What are the steps?

1. Go to Seller Central for the marketplace you'll sell in and create the account with your business email.

2. Choose a selling plan. Individual charges per item sold; Professional is a monthly subscription and is needed for ads, Brand Registry and most selling tools. Check Amazon's current fees for your marketplace.

3. Enter your business information, payout bank account, credit card and tax interview.

4. Complete identity verification. Amazon reviews your documents and may schedule a short video call.

5. After approval, set up shipping and tax settings, then list your first products.

What comes after approval?

An approved account is empty. If you own a trademark, enrol in Brand Registry to unlock A+ content, Sponsored Brands and brand protection. Then list products with keyword-researched titles and bullets, and plan your launch advertising before the first sale.

What should you avoid?

Don't open a second account to work around a suspension, and don't let anyone else register the account for you with their details. Amazon decides every application, and nobody can guarantee approval.
